Cozy Fall Pajamas You’ll Want to Wear All Season
“As the weather gets cooler, it’s time to start thinking about switching out our lightweight summer sleepwear for more substantial options to keep us warm on those brisk fall nights. No matter which style of pajamas you prefer, we have options. If you’re working from home this autumn, some of these cozy pajamas can even double as passable loungewear for the days when you don’t need to get dressed up for Zoom calls.”
Fashion & Beauty Trends That Will Take Over 2020
“Something you’ll notice about nearly all the big fashion trends for 2020 is that they share something in common: an element of fun. Maybe it’s an antidote to the world around us, but we just can’t get enough of the youthful and lighthearted look of something like polka dots. This pattern emerged as a frontrunner in 2019, but by 2020 it’ll be everywhere. Tiny polka dots are perhaps the most popular (and the easiest to incorporate into your wardrobe) but bigger styles work just as well to achieve an on-trend look.”
Summer Fashion Trends of Spring/Summer 2018
“You may think of plaids as being a much more fall and winter friendly trend, but their springier counterparts are ginghams and checker patterns, which evoke summer picnics and childhood dresses. But the runways this season showed a mix of both, with Burberry and Alexander McQueen displaying more traditional tartans. Victoria Beckham’s runway was full of lighter, pastel-toned pieces, while Sonia Rykiel’s were more traditional in classic black and white. Whichever way you choose to interpret it, it’s clear this is going to be a prominent pattern this season.”
The Evolution of Red Carpet Fashion
“Though the Academy Awards had been around since 1929, their first actual red carpet was installed in 1961- though of course at the time viewers couldn’t tell that it was red on their black and white TV sets. The importance of Oscars style started even earlier than that though, with one notable example being worn by Audrey Hepburn in 1954 when she won the award for Best Actress for her role in “Roman Holiday”. She wore a white gown by Hubert de Givenchy, which has been deemed “the most iconic Oscar dress of all time” by Time Magazine. The following year, when Grace Kelly took home the same award for her role in “The Country Girl,” she wore a design by Edith Head in a bright minty green.”
Most Historically Accurate Costumes in Movies
“Jacqueline Durran appears on our list again for her work on the 2007 film “Atonement”. While there are many gorgeous period costumes worn in the movie, the one you certainly remember is the stunning green gown that Keira Knightley’s character wears in what is perhaps the most critical scene in the story. The dress is slinky and nearly backless, and to settle on the design Durran studied fashion tomes from the 1920’s and ‘30s for inspiration. She acknowledges that Knightley was a little more “naked” than a woman would have typically been in the era, but that backless dresses were in fact very much in style.”
Highlights from New York Fashion Week 2018
“From bold neon liner, to subtle shimmer to glitter galore, the focus this season was fully on the eyes. Kate Spade showed models with rhinestones on their lids, Alice and Olivia displayed bold all-black looks and there was even gold leaf to be found at Ulla Johnson. The creative cat eyes at Jeremy Scott will definitely be inspiring many, and the bold wash of lid color at Adam Selman is an easy look for anyone to achieve.”
Highlights from New York Fashion Week 2017
“The fashion industry has long been derided for failing to feature diverse models in their shows and ad campaigns, but it looks like the tides are finally changing. Though there has been a steady increase of diverse models featured in recent years, 2017 marked a serious change with over 30 percent of the models being women of color. Brands like Concept Korea, Prabal Gurung, Helmut Lang and Christian Siriano all featured models of different age, shapes and sizes. Gender diversity was also apparent this year as several designers included trans, and gender-nonconforming models such as Sophia Lamar who walked for Helmut Lang and Violet Chachki who modeled for Christian Cowan.”
The Best Red Carpet Looks of the Century (So Far)
“In 2018, the Met Gala had one of the intriguing themes yet: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. All the stars had a different take on how to interpret this concept, but Priyanka Chopra took a unique approach in a burgundy crushed velvet dress. What set this look apart though wasn’t the Ralph Lauren dress itself, but the intricately beaded hood that went with it. The piece is adorned with Swarovski crystals and took over 250 hours to construct by hand. This definitely looks just as detailed as some of the decorations in Catholic churches.”
